The Cairns Indigenous Art Fair 2020 will be held online through this website. We acknowledge that displaying Indigenous cultures via an online platform creates more opportunity for appropriation of traditional knowledge and traditional cultural expression belonging to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples (known as Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property or ICIP).
There will be ICIP in the artworks, products, performances, speeches, films, photographs, languages and other material on the CIAF website and social media pages.
We have consulted in good faith with Indigenous artists, performers, and creators to ensure we are only sharing ICIP that is suitable to be shared in accordance with customary law and cultural protocols.
We have obtained cultural permission to display this ICIP on the Website for the purposes of holding CIAF in 2020. If you wish to use any of the ICIP you see on the website, you must also get permission from the traditional owner and custodians of that ICIP.
Respect Indigenous artists, performers and creators who create from their heritage and are continuing their cultural practice. Do not copy or share the art styles, stories, performances and knowledge you see as part of CIAF 2020. Appropriation harms culture.
For more information, follow the Australia Council Protocols for working with Indigenous artists.
